Overview

The Project Manager, Business Applications is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of system enhancements, upgrades, and new feature deployments across the organization’s enterprise business applications portfolio. This role focuses on driving application modernization and continuous improvement, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives.

 

The ideal candidate brings strong business applications project management experience, excels at driving stakeholder accountability, and can translate business needs into structured, executable delivery plans across Finance, Operations, and Technology teams.

Responsibilities

Business Applications Project Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end project management for application enhancements, upgrades, and deployments across enterprise platforms.
  • Own project scope, timelines, milestones, dependencies, and delivery outcomes from initiation through post-go-live stabilization.
  • Drive disciplined execution to ensure projects progress on schedule and deliver measurable business value.

Planning & Execution Management

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope definition, milestones, resourcing, dependencies, and budget tracking.
  • Manage multiple concurrent application initiatives while maintaining delivery quality and stakeholder alignment.
  • Enforce project governance, escalation paths, and decision-making frameworks.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the primary point of coordination between business stakeholders (Finance, Operations, Shared Services, etc.), IT, and external vendors.
  • Proactively drive stakeholder engagement, accountability, and timely decision-making.
  • Provide clear, concise status reporting on progress, risks, issues, and dependencies to leadership.

Risk, Issue & Dependency Management

  • Identify, assess, and actively manage project risks, issues, and interdependencies across systems and teams.
  • Develop mitigation and contingency plans to minimize disruption to business operations.
  • Ensure issues are escalated appropriately with recommended resolution paths.

Vendor & Resource Management

  • Coordinate internal teams and manage external implementation partners and consultants.
  • Track vendor deliverables, timelines, and contractual commitments to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Serve as the day-to-day delivery lead for vendor-supported initiatives.

Business Process & Requirements Alignment

  • Partner with business teams to gather and refine requirements tied to application enhancements.
  • Ensure system changes align with standardized processes, controls, and long-term platform roadmaps.
  • Support process redesign efforts to fully leverage application functionality.

Testing, Deployment & Adoption

  • Oversee testing strategy and execution, including UAT and integration testing, to ensure solutions meet business and quality standards.
  • Coordinate deployment activities, cutover planning, and post-implementation support.
  • Support change management efforts, including communications and end-user training, to drive adoption and minimize disruption.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.

Experience

  • 2+ years of project management experience, with a strong focus on business application upgrades, enhancements, or deployments.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
  • Experience working with enterprise platforms such as Maconomy, OneStream, MediaOcean, or similar financial/operational systems is a plus.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, Workfront).
  • Strong understanding of project delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, drive execution under deadlines, and align diverse stakeholder groups.
